Since it is Black HistoryMonth I wanted to post facts that most people don’t know about African-Americans. So today it will feature:
- The 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which abolished slavery, was adopted by the 38th Congress. Ratification was completed December 6, 1865.
- On Feb. 13th the first Black professional basketball team “The Renaissance” organized in 1923.
- Today Feb. 1st, Don Cornelius the
creator of the nationally syndicated dance/music franchise Soul Train, which he hosted from 1971 to 1993 was found dead.
I posted awhile back on my Facebook page, “Could you manage a day without inventions by African-Americans?” I still say no because most people take the smallest inventions for grant. For example:
- Sarah Boone – Ironing Board
- G.T. Sampson – Clothes Dryer
- Alexander Miles – Elevator
- F.J. Loudin – Key Chain
- T. Elkins – Toilet
- Richard Spikes – Automatic Gear Shift
That is all I will be posting today. More tomorrow.
